David Bell founded this certified small business in 1999 to fill an identified need for professional A/E services concentrating on sustainable design, historic preservation, and community development for institutional, commercial and mixed-use projects. Located in an enterprise zone within the Shaw Historic District of Washington, DC, BELL has taken on the immediate needs of the city’s neighborhoods through context-specific sustainable design.
The staff at Bell Architects has experience in site analysis, master planning, rehabilitation, systems integration and the public consultation and approval process. Over half of the team consists of LEED accredited design professionals who have worked extensively with sustainable and LEED certified projects, achieving significant energy savings and enhanced occupant comfort.

David Bell has a passion and expertise for integrating history, culture and sustainable design into the built environment.
An Award winning architect based in Washington, DC, he is involved in a variety of project types, scales and uses, including Educational Facilities, Libraries, Museums, Recreation Centers, Parks, Theaters, and mixed-use and multi-modal transportation centers. Critical skills include leading the public process and engaging communities in visioning. He is an expert in rehabilitation and creative accessibility upgrades. He has provided Section 106 review, DC section 9B and documentation for historic properties. His skills and interest are focused on integrating technology and traditional construction to achieve superior results with respect to conserving energy, environmental, financial and historic resources.
Mr. Bell has served on numerous boards and committees and is founding chair of the AIA DC High Performance Building Committee.
Favorite Song: Eclectic mix. No favorite, but right now “Wir können nix dafür” is at the top of my playlist.
Favorite Movie: “It’s a Wonderful Life”, we watch it every year.
Favorite thing to do: Exploring and winter sports, especially hockey and downhill skiing.
Favorite Food: A spicy Thai curry, and I make a mean wood-fired pizza.

Scott Knight, LEED AP
SENIOR ASSOCIATE | PROJECT MANAGER | HISTORIC PRESERVATION SPECIALIST
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Historic Preservation from Savannah College of Art Design, 1995. LEED accredited.
A member of BELL Architects since 2005, Scott has worked on countless projects. From small consulting work, such as helping usher a project through the required regulatory reviews to entire building rehabilitations. Some of his favorites include: The multiple phase project to restore the Hill Center in Southeast DC; The exterior restoration of the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis Maryland including replacing the copper dome and cupola; And the relocation and restoration of the Darby store in Montgomery County.
Outside of work interests include nature and architectural photography, traveling, and spending time with my family (Wife, Kid, and Dog).

Favorite movie: Anything sci-fi or adventure.
Favorite thing to do: Exploring a new place with my family.
Addictions: Sunshine and cameras.
Favorite internship: Paint conservation at the Owens Thomas House in Savannah Georgia.

Kyra Tallon, AIA, NCIDQ, LEED AP BD+C
PROJECT MANAGER | PROJECT ARCHITECT | INTERIOR DESIGNER
Master of Architecture, University of Maryland in 2005; Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Minor in Studio Art from Binghamton University in 1990. LEED accredited.
Kyra Tallon is a senior architect and interior designer with extensive experience in architectural and interior design and construction administration services for government, institutional, and commercial clients. Ms. Tallon began her career in architecture focusing on her skills with 3D computer modeling and renderings, and has extensive knowledge of a variety of 2D and 3D design, documentation, and presentation software, including Revit, AutoCAD, FormZ, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Kyra has led project teams to be responsive to clients, providing well qualified staff for timely, cost conscious and sustainable designs for institutional and commercial properties. Her broad, diverse experience, technical know‐how and strong background in analytical thinking, detailing and specification writing serves clients well by adding value to the design and construction process.
Apart from her architectural passion, Kyra spends her time on the water racing sailboats. She is an executive officer of a small boat racing club and a volunteer sailing coach with the Special Olympics.

Erin Holdenried, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, SEED
PROJECT ARCHITECT | DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY
University of Texas at Austin, Master of Architecture; Washington University in St Louis, Bachelor of Science in Architecture. LEED accredited.
Erin Holdenried is an expert in the fields of Architecture and Sustainable Design with extensive experience guiding multi-disciplinary teams through sustainable project approaches from early planning through construction. Erin has experience in a wide range of building types and clients, from office buildings to industrial campuses, for private and government clients. She has a particular interest in daylighting, passive systems, and low carbon design and is experienced in a number of analysis tools, such as Insight and IES <Virtual Environment> to vet design ideas and evaluate building performance. Erin is passionate about the environment and sustainable design principles. She views each project as an opportunity to have a positive impact and pushes teams to deliver the high-performing buildings with low environmental footprints.
Erin is a native of DC and has spent much of her life in the DMV area. On the weekends, you may find her walking Rock Creek Park with her partner and dog, hanging out with her nephews, or making pottery at a local clay studio. Erin also loves the mountains, especially in the winter during ski season.

Joshua Kaltreider
ASSOCIATE | ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Bachelor of Architecture, Temple University
A graduate architect with fifteen years of experience in the architecture and construction industry. Joshua works directly on the design, documentation, coordination, and construction administration of various scales and types of commercial, educational and institutional projects. He is a strong proponent for Building Information Modeling (BIM) and brings ten plus years of technical experience to the table.
Joshua lives just across the Potomac River in the Delray neighborhood of Alexandria Virginia with his wife Meg, and Australian cattle dog Finley. Outside of work, Joshua is an avid stripe bass angler, as well as a dedicated bonsai practitioner. He also enjoys partaking in classes at the art league, focusing on ceramics and welding. His favorite music genre is grunge/alternative rock and his favorite movies are The Matrix and Lord of the Rings.

Ricardo Moreno
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Texas Tech University
Ricardo is an Architectural Designer who is working on a variety of projects in the office that range from new construction to historic rehabilitation. While not in the office, he can be found studying art and architecture throughout innumerable landscapes.
Ricardo’s existence is primarily within the NOMA neighborhood. When not thinking of design, art, and architecture, Ricardo explores the realm of cryptography, the metaverse and web 3.0 applications to adhere the benefits of the architectural / real estate industry.
